Can I just take a minute to tell you how much I am loving school right now? Seriously, I didn't think I'd ever say that, but it's true.
My major is becoming more and more awesome every single day. For those that don't know, I am studying Family Life here at BYU. I started school with a Journalism Education major, switched to English Education, and now I've finally settled on Family Life. I was really bummed out when the journalism thing didn't work out, but I knew immediately that it wasn't for me, and I was able to switch to English Education. I seriously loved it. I loved learning how to be an effective teacher and talking about the development process of adolescents.
But when I transferred to BYU, the English major just was not going to work out. It would add another two years onto my program, and that wouldn't even include the teaching certification.
Um, no thank you.
So I found Family Life. And it is amazing. I get to learn about families and why they are the way they are (and I now know that my family has a method to its madness). I get to talk about how children grow and learn. I get to see what impacts their development and how to help them be successful. I love it.
What exactly do you do with a degree in Family Life? Well, I am glad you asked. There are actually a lot of options. But I have no idea what I am going to do.
My point here is to say do what you love. Sure, it is scary to make the decision to do something that might not work out exactly the way you planned it. But it is so worth it to have an education that is what you want it to be.
I am not sure what my next step is after graduation (one more year). But I do know that I have options. And regardless of what I choose to do, I know that this was the right choice. So glad I have such a supportive husband. He truly helps me to be the best person that I can be and I am incredibly grateful for that.
Be passionate about something. Pursue your dreams. Don't give up on yourself.
